Scent: Training to Track, Search and Rescue
Published in Paperback by Alpine Pubns (October, 1982)
Average review score:

Very tracking basedI think for the overall comment on this book is " It is VERY tracking based". If you are getting it to help you in search and rescue you won't get what you think you are buying (I don't think). If you are getting it for tracking it will probably be your "bible". I really enjoyed the scent theory in the begining of the book.
One of the best sources of information on canine olfaction. The first section of this book deals with scent theory and the canine gift of olfaction from a physical and anatomical examination of the dog. This is one of the best references to be found anywhere. The tracking portion of the book is a little weaker, but overall an excellent book!

The Terminal Private
Published in Paperback by Branden Publishing Co (September, 2000)
Average review score:

Carl Brings You To 1940's America With Honesty and WitMr. Pergolizzi reintroduces us to Norman Rockwell's war-time America from the perspective of a young "wet-behind-the-ears" soldier in The Terminal Private. Carl is honest and witty, bringing us through the paces along with his private who is disillusioned and defeated as well as educated and inspired. Educational and entertaining, The Terminal Private is a "must read" for anyone interested in World War II.
Adventures in 1943 Basic TrainingAn honest and sincere autobiographical account of Mr. Pergolizzi's experiences, during basic training: state-side in 1943. This is NOT a sanitized version of events. Closer, I'd bet, to how it really was for many servicemen. He's telling it straight from the shoulder, and pulling no punches.
There are many funny situations.. He's helping to put on a play for the troops, giving bugle lessons, creating mayhem in local drinking establishments, gambling, doing lots of KP, and romancing his share of women. From Camp Edwards, to Fort Brady, to the Air Corps Basic Training Center #10 in Greensboro, N.C., to Dickenson College in Carlisle, Pa., to Fort Picket, Va, and finally to Fort Hamilton, N.Y.
I enjoyed reading this book. It may be rough in places, but it's also funny and entertaining, with a great cast of characters, lovingly portrayed. And Carl is in the middle, trying to make sense of his situation, and trying very hard to survive.
God bless you Carl...

Adventures of a Mountain Man: The Narrative of Zenas Leonard
Published in Paperback by Univ of Nebraska Pr (February, 1979)
Average review score:

Exciting, thrilling, never a dull momentI'd give this book six stars if it were allowed! Zenas Leonard came out to the American West as a fur trapper in 1831, this is his own narrative. He started out under the leadership of Captain Gant trapping beaver and traveling extensively throughout the west. Later he joined in with the famous Captain Joseph Walker expedition to explore a passage to California. You simply can not put this book down! Indians, grizzlies, starvation and thirst, freezing temperatures, more Indian troubles, first white men to see Yosemite and the Redwoods, one adventure after another! Vivid descriptions of what it was like back then. An engrossing book!

Angeles, Demonios Y Dioses Del Nuevo Milenio

LON MILO DUQUETTE EN ESPANOLWelcome to the magical mind of Lon Milo DuQuette. He is at once brilliant, profound, folksy, irreverent, terrifying, funny, erudite and blasphemous. From the Emerald Tablet of Hermes to the Egyptian Book of the Dead - from the Holy Qabalah to why Demons Are Our Friends - this little book is a crash course in the Western spiritual traditions, and includes a full-color fold-out chart that will delight anyone even remotely interested in the Hebrew Qabalah. I read the entire chapter on Hypatia of Alexandria aloud to my wife and daughter.

Czech Mayakovsky and Rimbaud in One BookAt a time when poetry was politics and politics poetry and both politics and poetry were challenging visual and theatrical nerve endings, Nezval combined his energy and intellilgence into a new combination of images that released the comic imagination to play tricks on every possible expectation the reader may have. Nezval is to this day the representative of the legions of Czech artists, photographers and writers who have remained unknown until recently. This translation is the first in English.

Boom and Bust: The Historical Cycles of Matamoros and Brownsville
Published in Paperback by Eakin Publications (May, 1995)
Average review score:

enthusiasts should read this, too know of brownsville's histi have to say that milo kearney does a great job in documenting the history of brownsville, and matamoros. everything has a beginning, and this Professor of Historical sciences at the University of Texas at Brownsville does a fantastic job. The only thing that is really not good are the illustrations by petr Gawendra. they are really non enthusiastic, and super cheezy. i dont care what any one else says,a lousy effort. any way the book is worth it, for any one who wants to find out the history of this city [brownsville]this book is for you. Antonio Knopp also contributed to this literature work.

Chicago and the Old Northwest, 1673-1835: A Study of the Evolution of the Northwestern Frontier, Together With a History of Fort Dearborn
Published in Hardcover by Univ of Illinois Pr (Txt) (May, 2001)
Average review score:

Fort Dearborn MassacreMeticulous research by Quaife yields the definitive account of the Fort Dearborn Massacre. Very little information has been added to his classic account in the past 50 years, although historians have tried desperately to find new information on the subject. Quaife also gives a picture of the history of the entire region surrounding Chicago. African-American historians may be interested in his detailed biography of DuSable.
